Physical Description | Julia is petite and had a tendency to slip into rooms and come upon people unnoticed, as she moves quietly, but confidently. Her long red hair is often loosely tied up and frequently covers the pointed ears that are a result of her Vulcan heritage. As such, her spots are usually her most prominent features and she is frequently mistaken for a full-blood Trill. She looks younger than her years, and somewhat pretty but tends to normally downplay that. |

Personality & Traits
General Overview | Due to her youthful appearance, short stature, and generally quiet voice in everyday conversation- as well as her usual calm and reasonable nature- people tend to mistake her for being softer than she is. When pushed, she can push back even harder, if necessary. While she uses her Vulcan heritage as a source of control and logic, Julia is certainly not without emotion. Beneath the gentle appearance runs a playful current and a determined core of inner strength. She frequently feigns innocence in sneaking up on someone when she wishes to speak with them.
Strengths | Julia has found she has a knack for surprising people. Her ability to get others to do what she wants is a skill she has developed over a number of years as well as her talent for mediating disputes and exerting a calming influence. Along with this comes the resourcefulness to create order out of chaos, and the stamina and patience required to exert this sort of control- and the playful humor required to make the best of things. Additionally, she is simply a good listener.
Weaknesses | As a consequence of her desire to resolve conflicts, Julia can get drawn in too deep more easily than she would like and sometimes has trouble extricating herself. She is generally a peaceful person and had to develop the skill to wield a sharp verbal sword and exert her physical preference in the beginning of her career. Now, these skills are a key part of her personality but she still avoids conflict and violence herself more than she perhaps should.
Ambitions | Julia does not have a specific career ambition- she wants to live up to the standards of her parents as a Starfleet officer and to serve in the best way possible.
Hobbies & Interests | She is a scientist at heart, her specialty microbiology – the lab is like her second home. Beyond this interest, Julia also has many others. Some of these include exploring various aspects of the cultures of her dual heritage, such as reading up on their history and playing the Vulcan harp. |
|
Likes | Trying new activities, considering logic puzzles, music, microbiology, art, resolving difficult disputes, solving scientific challenges, and surprising people (she gets a certain type of joy out of proving others wrong).
Dislikes | Violence, irrational and hateful people, failing as a mediator, and causing harm to others.
Linguistic Abilities | Julia can speak her native languages (Federation Standard, Trill and Vulcan) with fluency. As she has inherited some of her mother's linguistic abilities, her repertoire also includes bits and pieces of a number of other languages as well as an enhanced ability to comprehend patterns on sounds. |
Personal History
Personal History | Julia was lucky to have a relatively stable childhood. A Starfleet brat, she was born to a joined Trill mother who served as a linguistic specialist and a scientist Vulcan father. Her parents gave her the name of their departed common friend, and the names of her paternal and maternal grandmothers as her middle and last name respectively. While there were of course the expected conflicts between the two cultures, her parents were able to work their problems out and transferred some of that strength to their only child. As such, she was able to grow up with the best of both worlds and the patience to deal with differences. With this background, it seemed all but certain that she would also join Starfleet. In fact, she did, but she did not go the Starfleet Academy route and instead chose to enlist as soon as she was eligible. Her mother had been a civilian specialist and her father had been commissioned into Starfleet at a later age, so the officer option was not tradition to her. It seemed the logical course for her to not attend the Academy, after she considered what she wanted and what she thought would be best for her. In fact, because of the timing of her initial training she was able to serve on the same ship as her parents for a short while before being promoted and transferred to another vessel. To this day, her relationship with her parents remained strong. |

Service Record | She did well in Starfleet, rising through the ranks- her superior officers always spoke highly of her and were reluctant to transfer her from their command. At first, she had few aspirations beyond gaining knowledge and serving in Starfleet, but as she advanced Julia found she had a talent for her own sort of management. Her leadership abilities pushed her farther along in rank, giving her ever increasing administrative responsibilities with each promotion. Though her career in Starfleet really began at birth, as she was absorbed in the culture from the moment she could breath the air aboard a starship, it officially started when she first enlisted. While she certainly did well, the young Julia encountered some unexpected troubles. It was difficult for her to transition from being a child in Starfleet, relatively free to do her own business, to the structured lifestyle of an officer where she had to fit within a specific role. Furthermore, she was reprimanded more than once for being too passive and too timid. Nevertheless she performed well enough elsewhere that there was no doubt of her completing her training. Her first assignment out of training was aboard her parents' assignment at that time, on Starbase 42. There she served as a lab assistant, a role she was familiar with from spending time with her father who was in charge of another lab. Here, on her first official posting, Julia grew into her role and proved that she was capable of doing the job. However, it was soon time for her to move on- though she loved her parents, she wanted to be outside of their influence, to develop completely on her own. So she moved on to her first assignment aboard a starship, the USS Orpheus, where she stayed for several years. While she had enjoyed her time aboard starbases, most of her childhood had been spent on one starship or another and this was where she preferred to be. Here Julia really grew, evolving fully from the Starfleet brat into an officer the deserved to be respected herself. Gradually taking on more responsibilities, her interests became more focused and she decided to further her training. After graduating from that second round of training, she was assigned to a new ship, the USS Euphrates, as a scientist in her own right. Julia stayed on this ship for five more years, thoroughly enjoying all the opportunities that came her way. This enjoyment showed in her work, as she drew commendations and good words from her commanding officers, and advanced two more ranks before going in for another round of further training. During her time on the Euphrates, the talent for languages she had inherited from her mother had begun to show itself. More importantly, Julia herself had taken an interest in that field, expanding her interests beyond the lab. So she flew through the linguistic instruction, before taking her combined specialties to the to the USS Athena. After seven years there, absorbed in various projects, she followed its Assistant Chief of Science to the USS Minerva. After the previous CoB of the Minerva departed, Julia found herself fulfilling that role. She had come far since first joining Starfleet- then, she had been barely focused on one specialty, aiming for more experience and knowledge rather than any leadership positions. Now, the years had developed her into someone capable of taking that role on and Julia more than proved her ability. Of course, her main focus was still science, but she enjoyed her other duties. Though she now served more as a linguistic specialist than in her first role, her microbiology research was never neglected and she still worked in those labs. As she says: "I love my microbes, but I get more action out of the lab as a linguist." |
