He can often be seen in both the officer's and enlisted lounges in the evening socializing and getting to know the members of his team and the rest of the crew. His humor is very dry and sarcastic; people who don't know him have mistaken jokes for serious comments before.
Strengths | Strengths: Fiercely loyal to his family and the crews with which he works. Very thorough, will take the extra time to make sure that nothing has been missed before turning in the report.
Weaknesses | Weaknesses: Can be slowed physically due to left leg being amputated below the knee in a rock climbing accident when he was 20. Does wear prosthetics, but can only run for a limited time without the proper prosthetic.
Hobbies & Interests | Soccer is his passion, and FC Barcelona is his team. He loves watching soccer, doesn't matter what league it is, but he will attempt to watch FC Barcelona games live if he can. Also, he is passionate about trying to spend time with his children each day, even if it's 10 minutes before bedtime to read them a story. |
Personal History
Personal History | He comes from a fishing family from coastal Portugal and spent much of his childhood and teenage years on a boat with his father and uncles, all of whom were part of the family business. He broke ranks with his family at age 17 when he entered Starfleet Academy, to some consternation from his father, who believed he should have joined his brothers in the family business and not entered the military. He distinguished himself in Starfleet Academy, graduating in the top 5% of his class from the Operations school, and double majoring in Command. He took a year off after his Junior year, however, due to an injury sustained while rock climbing in the Pyrenees mountains while on summer break. He shattered his left leg after losing his grip and falling 25 feet, when his restraining ropes stopped his fall, also propelling his leg directly in to a sharp outcropping of rock. Had he been near a hospital, the injury was repairable. However, he wasn't able to get to a hospital for over 5 hours due to the remote location where the injury occurred, as well as weather conditions preventing a medical evac. As a result, it was deemed medically necessary to amputate the leg and proceed with prosthesis. After graduation, he spent 10 years on the USS Madrid as an operations officer, quartermaster, and assistant chief of operations. While on shore leave on Earth in 2376, he met his wife, Michelle, and married her two years later in his hometown of Lisbon, Portugal. Michelle joined him on the USS Madrid in 2379 per Starfleet regulations requiring an officer be on a ship 6 months before family may join him on board. After spending 6 months at home for the birth of his daughters in 2381, he went back to space on the USS Gorbachev, spending over 3 years on that ship as assistant chief of operations, as well as chief of operations for the final 18 months of his tenure. His transfer to the Ajax necessitated the return of his family back to their home in Portugal. They had spend the last 2 years on the USS Gorbachev with Da Silva. It was a difficult, but combined decision. In consult with his wife, knowing that the missions the Ajax would be undertaking would be difficult and time consuming, it was decided between the two of them that they should be on Earth rather than with him in space. Both parents also acknowledged that their daughters would have better opportunities for education if they were on Earth rather than on a starship. While on the USS Ajax, Da Silva's family was the target of a successful assassination attempt by the Maquis. His wife, children, and parents were killed when the Maquis exploded the fusion core on a cruise ship in the north Atlantic Ocean, in retaliation for a mission that Da Silva spearheaded while he was assigned to the USS Gorbachev. |

Medical History
Medical Profile | Unremarkable, with exception for one incident. 2368: Rock climbing injury; shattered left leg. Left leg amputated below the knee due to multiple extenuating circumstances (unable to perform medical evacuation due to remote location of accident and weather conditions; injury left untreated 5 hours). Patient uses prostheses to walk and perform normal functions. Patient has multiple prostheses for different situations, interchangeable depending on the circumstances. No limitations on service. |
|
Psychological Profile | Unremarkable, except for emotional damage due to death of wife, children, and parents in terrorist attack on cruise ship on Earth. Attack was traced back to a rogue faction of the Maquis. Incident has been identified as retaliation for work done by LTCMDR Da Silva while Chief of Operations on USS Gorbachev. Da Silva suffers mild symptoms of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) over the death of his family, specifically the sudden, horrific way they died. |
