A brief departure...

Mission: Episode One: Back on the Highway to Hell
Location: Bridge, USS Arizona
Timeline: MD 4: 0930 hours

Captain Nathan Cowell emerged from his Ready Room with a stern look on his face. That, in and of itself, was not all that unusual. The Captain almost always had that look on his face. The difference was, he didn’t normally start barking orders until he was sitting in his chair.

“Commander Adams,” Nathan said almost as soon as he left the confines of his office.

“Aye sir?” the woman said, swiveling in the chair at CONN.

“Grab a shuttle and head for the Federation colony. I just got asked to send them someone to take over an Executive Officer position and you’re the one that got picked,” the Captain declared as he stepped up the small raised platform leading up to his chair.

“Yes, Captain… thank you,” the woman said curtly before abandoning the console. Lieutenant Akron hurried over to the panel and sank into the chair, assuming the duties his now former Chief had just abandoned.

“Akron!” Nathan thundered as he sank into his chair.

The young officer jumped slightly at the volume of the Captain’s voice, “Sir?”

“Until Starfleet sees fit to send me a new CONN officer, you’re running the department. Understood?” The Old Man declared rather abruptly.

Paul blinked several times before turning to look at his Commander, then blinked a few more times before nodding, “I’ll do my best, Captain.”

“Good enough,” Nathan said, leaning back in his chair, “How long until we cross over into the Gradin Belt?”

Paul turned back around and brought up the navigation readout, “One day, four hours, Captain.”

Nathan nodded silently to himself before pushing his old body back out of his chair, “Maintain current course and speed, Mister Akron.”

The El-Aurian walked back into his Ready Room in the same manner as he’d emerged, abruptly, leaving the Bridge crew to handle business undisturbed.
