Mission:
Prelude; Breakfast at Curmudgeon's
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD -1 : 0930
Claire made her way to sickbay for two reasons. To get her annual physical renewed before they got underway and to get a fresh prescription of her sunblock. That was why she was now standing in front of yet another medical facility. She'd seen enough of them since she was eight and she had no reason to believe this one would be any different. They were all sterile, bright, and overly friendly. It was the brightness that got to her - she burned easily and the bright lights in medical facilities normally gave her at least a mild sunburn if she hadn't used her sunblock cream. Which she hadn't...
Taking a deep breath, she walked through the door. "Hello? I'm Lieutenant Claire Annette. I'm here for my physical and sunblock." She didn't see anyone right off, but it was a large sickbay so someone could be hiding behind a biobed or in one of the offices for all she knew.
Kina blinked and turned from the cupboard she was inventorying, but didn't see anyone. There was a blind spot in the form of a wall that seemed to hide. It was a terrible design for sure, but she figured if she could get maintenance to paint it, it would be just fine. Two steps to her right and she spotted the girl who was as far from Kina in skin tone as it was possible to be. She smiled warmly. "Hello," she said in her lightly accented voice. "Come in, Miss Annette. I am Doctor Hena."
"Thank you, Doctor," Claire replied with relief and a smile. "I'm in need of a physical and a refill on my prescription sunblock, if you have time."
"Absolutely," said Kina. "Hop right up here and we'll get started," she added, indicating the nearest bio bed as she took out her tricorder from its customary spot in her jacket pocket.
Hopping up on the biobed, Claire sat patiently. This was a normal occurrence for her, as it was. "I expect I'll see you rather often. I've been an albino since I was eight and even bright lights like these have landed me in sickbay before. When I was reporting into the Captain he mentioned a couple surgeries I hadn't heard about that might help. Nothing that can get my rosy tan back, mind you... But something to at least prevent me combusting like a human match if I go out into the sun."
Kina's brow wrinkled with interest. "Surgeries to correct albinism?" she said, beginning preliminary scans. "I've never heard of them either. I shall have to ask him. After all, he knows just a little bit more about medicine than me," she added with a grin.
"Not to correct it. Just to prevent the sun from burning me to a crisp like normal people." Claire was already starting to get a bit red just from the bright lights in sickbay by this point. "He mentioned two different things, one of which involved nanotech of some sort and I was hoping you knew more about them."
"Hm, fascinating," replied Kina, not paying attention to her tricorder. "Nanotech to treat albinism. I'm going to have to look into that." Her tricorder beeped, recalling her attention to it and she reviewed the scans before switching to secondary scans.
A beep? was that a normal beep? For a moment Claire was worried, then she reminded herself that other than her forced albinism and tendancy to burn in bright lights, she hadn't had much to worry about since she was eight, medical wise.
"Hm," said Kina, studying the tricorder read-out. "You're showing early signs of light UV radiation burn. Do you always burn so easily?"
"I do. One of the reasons I avoid the lighting in sickbay." Claire pulled out a PaDD and offered it to the doctor. "I'd like a renewal on my prescription sunblock, as well."
Kina took the PaDD and gave it a quick look. "Ah, the strong stuff," she said, going to a nearby cupboard and reaching in towards the back. "Here we are," she announced. "SPF five thousand." She grinned, holding it up. "Not really. It's actually only SPF100, but it may as well be five thousand." She crossed back to the bio bed and handed over the large bottle. "You'd better get some of that one pretty soon."
"Thank you," Claire said as she immediately popped the bottle open and started rubbing some on her face and hands. The rest of her wasn't exposed at the moment, so she'd be fine for now. "Everything else look good, Doctor?"
"Yes, everything else is fine," replied Kina, closing her tricorder. "Don't let yourself run out of that stuff from here on out. Come see me when it gets low."
"I will, thank you Doctor," Claire slid the bottle into her pocket and hopped off the biobed, making ready to leave. "If you ever need anything from security, let me know."
